Water Sports in Hawaii Aug 16

Ah, Hawaii the perfect vacation spots for a magical getaway in a tropical paradise.  There are few vacation destinations that offer as many attractions as Hawaii.  The island of Oahu boasts huge cities with lots of shopping as well some cultural activities nestled amongst the North Shore surfing villages.  The island also is home to the memorial at Pearl Harbor, which is on the top of the list of must see for Oahu

There are ample opportunities for playing golf as well.  All of the islands have golf courses.  They range from world championship golf courses to quiet laid back courses that have little or no greens fees.

But really Hawaii is all about the water sports.  The state is an island surrounded by the Pacific Ocean that is home to some of the world’s best and largest waves.  In fact surfing was invented here in the islands.  Oahu and Maui are most well known for surfing, particularly the North Shore of both islands, but you can really expect to see some pretty great waves just about anywhere in Hawaii.  If you are a beginner, you should stick to the beginner friendly waves like Waikiki Beach on Oahu and Lahaina in Maui. The big waves on the North Shore of the islands should be left to the experts. more…

Holiday Gifts: Parachute Jump Apr 12

If you are looking for a gift for someone who isn’t afraid of heights, has a good amount of daredevil in them, and doesn’t find anything wrong with jumping out of a perfectly good airplane, this is one gift that will earn you eternal gratitude.
This is just the holiday gift for that special someone who you know has always wondered how it would feel to just jump out of an airplane, let alone fall 10,000 feet.  A single tandem sky dive session will run you an average of about $200.00 which includes instruction that runs about half an hour and one jump.

That is also what makes the tandem jump such a great gift, since it is a one-day event, you get the opportunity to see how much you really enjoy it without investing a lot of time and money learning to dive on your own, then if you complete the jump and find yourself wanting to get back up there and do it again you have the option of signing up for classes where they will teach you everything you need to know from packing your own chute to landing in your target.

The tandem jump is done while you are harnessed to a professional diver who helps control the fall.  You will undergo on the ground training and perform the jump the same day.  You start out taking a plane up to around 10,000 feet.  At that point you will jump and free-fall for several thousand feet at approximately 120 miles per hour.   Contrary to what most people think free falling doesn’t make your stomach roll like a roller coaster might.  It’s more like floating on a cushion; similar to the feeling of buoyancy you get in the water but to a much greater degree. more…

Where to Find Extreme Sporting Opportunities in California Mar 16

California is a land of extremes; from deserts to beaches to forests to rivers, it has it all.  It’s no wonder that extreme sporting has taken off in California – the geographical diversity offered make it easy to find just the thrill you were seeking, no matter where in the state you’re visiting.

As far as water sports goes, there are a wide variety of opportunities to raise your adrenalin level!  The waves on the beach offer some crazy surfing opportunities, and then there’s kayaking, snorkeling, deep-sea diving, and wind-surfing.  If it can be done on water, it can be done in California.

If staying on dry land whilst seeking a rush appeals to you, check out the rock climbing opportunities that are available.  The popular huge boulders in Bishop offer a world-class challenge to climbers wanting to show their skills.  If you’re down in the south of California and want to try your hand at rock climbing, check out the Joshua Tree National Monument in the Mojave Desert.  The heat is intense during the summer (over 100 degrees regularly) so either be prepared for an added natural element challenge, or plan your trip during winter time.  Of course, there are those who consider the heat to be part of the extreme experience – so it’s up to each climber how extreme they want to be!

If aerial is more your thing, you’ll be happy to hear that California is home to countless skydiving companies.  There are schools to teach you how to do it, and companies are willing to take anyone from the first timer to the most experienced jumper out on a run.  The rush of purposefully jumping out of a plane is second to none, although your friends may question your sanity!

If extreme sports is your thing, then you’ll find that California is the ideal place to vacation!

Golf Holidays to Get Away From It All Nov 13

If you have been working too hard for too long and just need to get away and play some golf, you will want to check out golf holidays package vacations from your travel agent.  These travel arrangements are often referred to as “stay and play” plans because you stay at a certain hotel and receive rights to play at a certain golf course while you are there.  When making these arrangements, make sure there are not special requirements that will make playing inconvenient or impossible for you.  Some of these plans require you to limit your arrival dates and departure dates or have other unacceptable limits so read the fine print.

You can take golf holidays to all sorts of locations depending on your personality and desires.  For instance, you can choose to golf in a course located near or in a major city, taking in museums or theatres when not golfing.  Or you might choose to visit a golf course in an area of rugged natural beauty such as the mountains.  While there, you might take a day to fish instead of golf.  Whatever your needs, you can find golf holidays packages to meet your needs.

Are you going to take your own golf clubs with you when you travel on golf holidays?  You probably would prefer to use them rather than the clubs that can be rented at the course to which you are travelling.  If you choose to take them with you, you will need to think about the arrangements a bit.  For instance, do you have a really high quality golf club bag which will protect those expensive golf clubs.  If not, you’d better get one.  You won’t be able to carry your clubs on if you are flying, so you’ll need a bag that can take airport luggage handling and still protect your clubs.  So get a good one.

When picking a destination for golf holidays, pick the course you wish to play on first, and then find out about lodging at hotels, resorts, or stay and play package plans.  Make sure the tee times that are set for you when choosing a stay and play package are going to work for you.  People who are staying at a golf course’s own resort generally get first serve when choosing tee times.  If it’s really important to you to get the tee time you desire, it may be worth it to you to stay at the resort instead of a less expensive hotel.  Either way, you are sure to find refreshment and restoration when taking golf holidays.

Snow Boarding Vacation Sep 20

Around a year ago I went on a snow boarding vacation to Europe and had a great time by all accounts. The best part was that I went with all my friends, all of which had varied abilities in the sport. Some of my friends compete in competitions and the like, whilst others have only been on the slopes a few times in their life. The fact is that we were all really looking forward to it, and we were all sure to enjoy ourselves whilst we were away. The fact is that we do not spend that much time together, as we all went to different colleges whilst others decided to enter the world of work and go out their and get a job.

When we decided to book the holiday I was delighted to hear that everybody was able to make it, and that everyone had promised to save up enough money to really enjoy themselves while we were away. The cost of booking the holiday worked out at around $300 for accommodation for the week as we were going to be staying at a backpacker’s location, and it was only going to cost $150 for return flights. We really felt like we had struck a bargain, and we were even more delighted when we heard that the cost of living would be really cheap when we got their. We had decided to save up $1000 each, which meant that we would have more than enough spending money for when we arrived.

The price being so cheap, some of my friends decided to go online and buy some equipment for the trip and that was anything from new boards to clothing. I personally never bothered, as I was currently struggling for money, surviving merely on the pay that I got for working in a local MP3 player shop. more…

Yoga and Sports: Skiing Aug 22

It is incredible what yoga does for skiing. People can ski all day long and much better. Conditioning before hitting the slopes can increase the safety and enjoyment of the sport. Most ski injuries occur early in the day when muscles are tight and enthusiasm is high, and late in the day when muscles are weakened and technique is poor. A simple yoga exercise called the awkward pose, can increase your strength, balance and concentration which will make the ski season more rewarding.

It consists of three variations which are done sequentially. To begin, stand with the feet apart, about shoulder width, an even distance (approximately six inches) between your heels and toes. Extend the arms out in front of you parallel to the floor with the shoulders pressed down and away from the head. Keep the upper body strong and firm in this position.

Bend your knees and shift the weight back into the heels, pushing the buttocks out behind you. When the top of the thighs are parallel to the floor and arms, hold your pose. The feet should be held parallel and the knees should only be shoulder width apart. One good way to think of getting into this pose is to imagine that you are sitting in an invisible chair leaning back to bring the spine and shoulders against the back of the chair. The arm muscles are contracted, the abdomen is held tight and your breathing should be normal. Hold the pose for 20 seconds. Stand up. more…
