Explore Lanzarote´s Leading Attractions Jul 14

Planning a stay on Lanzarote in the Canaries?  Then you have a real treat in store – as this Spanish owned holiday destination has a whole host of high impact visitor attractions for tourists to enjoy.  Assuming you can tear yourself away from the pool or the beach of course!

That may be tougher than you think – as the weather on Lanzarote is fantastic all year round and especially hot during the summer months.  So make sure your rental vehicle has air con if you are booking car hire.  Or take a trip on an air conditioned coach as part of a guided tour.  All of which pick up from most Lanzarote hotels.  Guests staying in villas in Lanzarote can also join these tours at fixed collection and drop off points close to their accommodation.

The top stop on any tour of Lanzarote has to be the jaw dropping scenery of the Timanfaya Volcano Park, which is one of the most popular National Parks in Spain.  The terrain here is all lava fields and volcanoes, creating a lunar like feel that really is out of this world!  Tourists aren’t allowed to walk across the lava fields in order to preserve them.  So all visitors are taken around the park on coaches driven by expert drivers.  Before depositing them back at the Devils Diner – where they can view their lunch being cooked by the heat of a volcano.

All of these volcanoes re now dormant but still emanate a lot of heat.  Park wardens are only too happy to demonstrate this by putting water into bore holes – which is then expelled seconds later as jets of steam.  Apparently the temperature just beneath the surface here still reaches an eye watering 400 degrees!

For a total contrast to the barren aridity of the lava fields take a tour in then north of the island.  Where there are palm packed valleys and whitewashed villages to explore.  The best of these is Haria – which also plays host to a great market every week – an ideal spot for souvenir hunters.

Haria is located on the floor of the Valley of 1000 Palms – which is like a huge oasis with loads of Canarian palm trees swaying in the breeze.  Most of these were planted by proud parents who follow the tradition of putting a new palm in the ground whenever a baby is born in the village.

Flights to Lanzarote can be booked easily and cheaply online.  Try comparing the best deals on websites such as Skyscanner.

Hotels and Holidays In Lanzarote Feb 08

Lanzarote is an ideal holiday destination – especially during the winter months. As the sun shines on this small Canary Island all year round. Thanks to the fact that it is situated close to the Tropic of Cancer and the West African mainland. With a climate that boasts temperatures of 20 Celsius plus even in December.

Lanzarote is one of the seven islands that comprise the Canarian archipelago. Which is an autonomous region of Spain and part of the EU. Making this point about as far as you can go south and still technically speaking be within the boundaries of Europe.

The islands are in effect the European Caribbean as they offer sunshine whatever the time of year and are just a four hour flight from major markets such as the UK. Whilst other winter sun destinations require much longer travelling times.

There are hundreds of hotels in Lanzarote for visitors to choose from – with plenty of five and four star options available. The bulk of the best establishments are located in the main holiday resorts of Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise. Whilst rural hotels have also started to enjoy more bookings over recent years.

Fortunately for visitors Lanzarote is a very small island, which makes transfer times from the airport very bearabale. With Playa Blanca the furthest resort away with a journey time of about forty minutes. Whilst Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise are both just a ten to fifteen minute drive.

This small scale also makes Lanzarote very easy to explore. And car hire in Lanzarote is also very cheap – so touring the island is also inexpensive. As rental rates start at about €15 per day. Anyone planning to hire a vehicle must be over 23 years of age and in possession of a full, clean driving licence. The roads are also well signposted and relatively quiet – especially outside of the main holiday resorts.

Many visitors opt to book holiday villas in Lanzarote – which often also necessitates the hire of a vehicle as some of these properties can be located in the countryside or away from the main resorts too.

For those who don’t like to drive whilst abroad there are also plenty of guided tours of the island. Usually these are divided into a North and South tour – although some companies also offer an ell encompassing Grand Tour too.
